HK to Host International Stamp Exhibition

The Hong Kong 2001 Stamp Exhibition will be held from February 1 to 5 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, a Hong Kong official announced Monday.

The exhibition is the first Asian international stamp exhibition to be held in Hong Kong since Hong Kong's return to themotherland in 1997, said Luk Ping-chuen, Hong Kong's postmaster general.

With the theme of "Nature," the exhibition is to draw the attention of the general public to environmental protection, Luk said, adding that it also aims to "sustain the philatelic interest generated by HONG KONG '97 and promote stamp collecting as a healthy and educational hobby."

The Chinese white dolphin is selected as the mascot. At the exhibition there will be about 150 trading booths operated by various postal administrations, philatelic agents, security printers, stamp dealers, philatelic publishers and stationery suppliers.

The China National Postage Stamp Museum also has agreed to provide some of its valuable collections for display at the exhibition, which is organized by Hongkong Post and co-organized by the Hong Kong Philatelic Society and other local philatelic associations.
