Vietnam to Further Strengthen Friendly Relations with India: Party Leader

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Le Kha Phieu said that Vietnamese Party, state and people will continue to strive for consolidating and strengthening friendly and multi-faceted cooperation with India.

Phieu made the remarks Tuesday during meeting here with visiting Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

During the meeting, Phieu highly valued India's policy of traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation towards Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Party leader affirmed that Vietnam will carry forward its renovation cause, building Vietnam into a rich country with social equality and democratic civilization.

Vajpayee promised that India is ready to comprehensively cooperate with Vietnam and continuously promote cooperative relations with Vietnam in the fields of trade, investment, science and technology, as well as in the multilateral forums, such as nonalignment movement, South-South cooperation, ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the United Nations.

Vajpayee suggested that Indian ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party establish and develop relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Vajpayee invited General Secretary Le Kha Phieu to visit India at a convenient time. Phieu accepted the invitation.

Earlier the day, Vajpayee also met here with Vietnam veteran general Vo Nguyen Giap, Defense Minister Pham Van Tra, as well as Vietnamese and Indian entrepreneurs.

The Indian prime minister is on his four-day official goodwill visit to Vietnam, which is the first leg of his Southeast Asian trip. He is scheduled to end the visit on Wednesday, leaving here for Indonesia.
