China's Oceangoing Fishing Boats Set Off for South Pacific Ocean

Eight 100-tonnage fishing boats set off recently from Zhanjiang, a port in south China's Guangdong Province, for the international fishing ground near Micronesia of the South Pacific Ocean.

The boats owned by individuals are believed to be the first oceangoing fishing vessels set out in the new century.

The fishing fleet will mainly harvest tuna for export.

Another seven vessels are expected to join the eight-boat fleet early next month.
