Justice Minister Pledges Stability in Prisons

China's newly-appointed minister of justice Zhang Fusen said here Friday that prison guards across the country shall be on full alert to ensure the security and stability of all prisons in the upcoming Spring Festival period.

"Security and stability of prisons have a great impact on social stability, thus a vital part of judicial work," he said at a meeting of the ministry.

"With the approach of the Spring Festival, the safety and stability of prisons should be guaranteed," he said, stressing that "no riots, explosions, fires and other accidents are allowed."

He called for wardens to strictly abide by laws and regulations. The minister said that the essence of prison work lies in the reform and reeducation of prisoners, which is key to the reduction of crimes inside prisons.
