Forum in Memory of President's Proposals on Reunification

A forum was held Sunday to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the issuance of the Eight-Point Proposals on Peaceful Reunification of the Motherland by President Jiang Zemin.

The participants re-studied Jiang's important speech made on January 30, 1995, and recalled the progress made in the city's exchanges with Taiwan over the past six years.

They concluded that the president's speech is the guideline for the current efforts to promote the reunification of the motherland.

They pledged to further implement the proposals, adhere to the One-China Principle, and oppose separatism and the independence of Taiwan.

The forum was organized by the city government's Taiwan Affairs Office, the Municipal Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-

Government League, the Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the Shanghai Association of Taiwan Compatriots.
