Zhu Chenyi, a veteran winter sports official, admitted that China puts its gold medal hope on short track speed skating, with men's skater Guo Wei the most promising one. At the World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships, Guo Wei was crowned in 500m and finished runner-up in the overall standings. "Our aim is to accumulate international competition experience at the Winter Universiade this year so as to make a splash at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics next year."
