Poll: 94.9 percent of Beijing residents back Olympic bid

A Gallup poll shows that 94.9 percent of the Beijing residents support the Chinese capital's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, the Beijing Olympic Bidding Committee announced in Beijing on Friday.

The poll of 1,626 Beijing residents, conducted by the Gallup China Co. Ltd. last November, also shows that 94 percent want to become Olympic volunteers.

Beijing is one of five final candidates to host the 2008 Games, competing against Paris, Osaka, Istanbul and Toronto.
