Beijing to Build Two Cultural Zones

Beijing will build two cultural zones in the coming five years to boost the city's culture industry, according to a news conference Sunday.

The two zones will be constructed at the Liulichang area and the Tongzhou District, according to Gao Qixiang, a member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences.

The Liulichang Cultural Zone is designed to display and carry forward traditional Chinese culture, and the other zone in Tongzhou District is to become a center which focuses on popularizing, introducing and spreading oriental culture.

Statistics show that Beijing has set up more than 3,800 organizations involved in the culture industry. The organizations generated 10.7 billion yuan in added value in the past five years,or 4.4 percent of the city's gross domestic product.
