E-port Empowers E-commerce

An electronic law enforcement agency will be put into trial operation in major import-export ports outlets in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou, said an official from General Administration of Customs.

The move, headed by the administration, aims to help conduct transactions online, curb smuggling and prevent tax-evasion.

The official said that the electronic agency could provide a secure and highly efficient Internet data center for China's e-commerce.

The data center enables enterprises to import and export products entirely online. The whole process, from requisition to payment, can thus be simplified.

"Enterprises and governments can store and exchange data on the Internet, which will reduce costs and save time," said the official.
