Foreign Conductor's Service to Benefit SSO

Marco Parisotto, famous young Canadian conductor, will be the first foreign visiting Chief Conductor with his service to benefit Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (SSO) in its 120-year history. It is reported he is to be with SSO through 12 concerts this year.

Born in 1963 in Montreal, Marco Parisotto is of world fame for his crowning success in seven major European conducting competitions and winning the highest honor at Tokyo International in Japan. He had also won the Grand Prix from the Besancon International Competition for Conductors in 1997.

In 1999, he was invited to conduct one SSO concert, the first time he went into cooperation with the SSO. His super conducting skills had made deep impression on the SSO musicians. Meanwhile, to Marco Parisotto's amazement, SSO musicians had played at a high level he found.

Marco Parisotto and the SSO finally struck accord as they did after one-year talk about cooperation.

When asked about his comments on the cooperation, Chen Xieyang, Artistic Director of the SSO, who is also AD for China Central Opera House, said that he embraced the move. A younger brilliant conductor should be at the helm of SSO, he said.
