Over 40m Yuan Relief to Xinjiang Blizzards Victims

Sources from the Civil Affairs Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region say that the government has appropriated a relief fund of over RMB 40m yuan to ensure the basic needs of food and clothing for the blizzard victims in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

So far, 13 people are reported dead and a population of 924,000 suffering from the heaviest snowstorms in the calamitous areas of six prefectures, 29 counties and cities in the region. Over 17 million heads of livestock dead or under the threat of extreme cold, and about 16,700 herdsmen's houses were damaged in the blizzards incurring a direct economic loss of over RMB 200 million yuan.
