Bush Writes to Vajpayee on Bilateral Ties

US President George Bush has written to Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee underscoring the importance of building strong and mutually beneficial bilateral relations, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported Monday.

In his letter delivered by US Ambassador to India Richard F Celeste, Bush expressed the hope that he and Vajpayee would foster such a relationship on the basis of the tremendous potential for increasing cooperation between the two countries, the PTI said.

Bush reiterated that the US would continue to make efforts to assist India in overcoming the effects of the major earthquake that hit west India's Gujarat state on January 26.
