Jiangsu Mobile Contracted With Alcatel to Expand Capacity

An enlargement contract, valued at 780 million US dollars (US$94 million), has been signed to expand mobile telecommunications capacity to 7.5 million users in the eastern province of Jiangsu.

It is the fifth-phase enlargement project for GSM network of Jiangsu Mobile Telcom Co. Ltd., which worked out the cooperation contract with French giant telcom company Alcatel.

The French partner would provide Jiangsu Mobile with the equipment, software and service. After its completion, the French technically backed system could accommodate 2.9 million mobile subscribers, sources said.

This cooperation came following Jiangsu Mobile's enlargement contract with Swedish company Ericsson late last year.
