German Enterprises Keen on China's Furniture Market

Some 45 major German machinery and material enterprises in the furniture manufacturing industry attended the fourth China International Furniture Production and Decoration Exposition, which opened Tuesday in Shanghai.

In a 1,000-square-meter exhibition hall, the German enterprises displayed a variety of equipment, machinery, tools, adhesives and decoration paper for the furniture-making industry.

According to industry sources, German equipment enterprises and Chinese timber companies have a long history of cooperation in the fields of wood handicraft, sawmill technology and woodworking architecture.

Statistics show that China's furniture industry exports one-fourth of its products, valued at US$10 billion per year. And the export is expected to increase by 50 percent in the next few years.

At the same time, the growing demand of Chinese consumers for high-quality furniture and building materials also calls for the introduction of advanced technology and machinery equipment from overseas.
