Terrestrial Heat Development Unit Operational

China's biggest terrestrial heat development unit was put into operation at Tanggu District Waterworks in Tianjin Tuesday.

With a daily handling capacity of 1,200 tons, the unit is designed to provide water to local heating systems.

Designed and produced by the French CIAT company, the machine is of the world advanced level, according to Li Jingfa, head of the geothermal resources development office in the city.

Prospecting shows that Tanggu District in Tianjin is rich in geothermal resources with an estimated 502 million tons of geothermal water. Its average temperature is over 60 degreesCelsius.
