Taiwan's First Original Net Newspaper Waves Farewell

Taiwan's First Original Net Newspaper Waves Farewell
Suffering from improper market judgement, "T-times", the first original net newspaper in Taiwan, reported a huge deficit finally stopped its online "publication" on the afternoon of February 21, said Zhan Hongzhi, president of the "T-Times" in his news briefing Wednesday noon.

Different from traditional newspapers, such as "China Times" and "United Daily" in electronic edition, the "T-Times" is the first original net newspaper in Taiwan. During the one year of endeavor following its first "publication", the "T-Times" has been renowned in the Island for its professional editing ability and creative spirit. However, due to the immoderate expenditure, every month saw an amount of NT$ 40 to 50 million down the drain. Confronted with a stagnant situation of the bubble net economy with no enough ad earnings to come by it failed to eke out an existence in the end. Therefore, the "T-Times" had no way out but to wind up after one year's efforts.

As reported, a media group in Hong Kong has taken over the T-Times and 150 employees from the original staff as well. It has a plan to publish two or three magazines in Taiwan.

The termination of the "publication" of "T-Times" roused an extensive concern from among the Taiwan media. Personages in charge of "Udnnews" felt sorry for it. Some media are worrying about the "tomorrow" of the net media and its economy.
