Foot-Mouth Disease Cases Reported in Philippines
The Philippine Department of Agriculture revealed Thursday that the Foot-mouth Disease (FMD) was detected in several Philippine provinces.
The department warned the public of the widespread outbreaks of the disease in provinces of Nueva Ecija, Bicol, Laguna and Cavite in central north Philippines, news channel ABS-CBN reported.
The Philippine government recently ordered a temporary ban on all imported meat products following outbreaks of the FMD and Mad Cow Disease in Europe.
The FMD is a contagious disease usually found in cloven-footed animals particularly pigs and sheep and is characterized by the formation of vesicles and ulcers in the mouth and hoofs of the infected animals. The disease is said to be harmful to humans.
