Death Penalty of Two Embezzlers Executed

With the approval of the Supreme People's Court, death penalty of two embezzlers, who obtained 72. 72 million yuan (about US$8.7624 million) through illegal activities, were executed Thursday.

Xu Jie, a female with the Guiyang Finance Bureau in southwestern Guizhou Province, colluded with Du Jiansheng, a male employee of the Guizhou Provincial Pharmaceuticals Company, from October 1997 to February 2000, to embezzle extrabudgetary funds, government loan funds and State treasury bills.

The Intermediate People's Court in Guiyan gave the two death sentences with confiscation of all their individual property and deprivation of political rights for their whole life on August 4, last year.

The Guizhou Higher People's Court overruled on September 18 their appeal and affirmed the original judgment.
