Taiwan Opposition Party Election to Be Held This Month

Kuomintang (KMT), the opposition party on Taiwan island, will hold its first direct election for the position of party chairman on March 24, according to reports reaching from Taipei Tuesday.

Of all the 952,830 individuals registered as KMT members as of this January, 905,990 are qualified to vote in the election, the reports said.

Although the voting date is fast approaching, more than 400,000 KMT membership cards for new members have not been issued. The cards, which indicate a member's voting status, have still not been issued because of the unexpectedly large number of registered members this year.

Officials said that members qualified to vote can present their valid vote notifications and ID cards to receive their ballots and vote. The party has set up 657 stations for the voting operations.
