Popular TV Series Have Anti-Corruption Theme: CPPCC Members

The reason why a number of TV series and movies shown recently are so popular is that they all have the anti-corruption theme, according to some members of the National Committee of the Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Chinas top advisory body.

They agreed that these series and movies are close to life, face social contradictions squarely, and reflect the popular will.

Corruption is a historical problem and a topic worldwide. The people resent corruption and hate corruption officials.

The members noted that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese Government have expressed their determination to penalize corrupt officials by executing a number of high-ranking corrupt ones. Among those executed are Hu Changqing, former Jiangxi Provincial Governor, and Cheng Kejie, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress, Chinas top legislature.

Fang Jiamin said, We must introduce a power supervisory system compatible with a socialist market economic structure. We must reduce corruption to a minimum by legal, administrative, educational and disciplinary means.

Yang Xingkai said, The failure to solve the corruption problem is detrimental to Chinas construction and development. How to solve this problem? I think it is a must to energetically carry forward socialist democracy and perfect a socialist legal system.

Chen Xinzeng expressed the hope that the CPPCC National Committee will spell out specific measures to enhance its supervisory role and play its due part in cracking down on corruption and encouraging honesty.
