Farmer-Made Plane Interests Korean Airmen

A thirty-year-old farmer maneuvered a plane he had made himself at a height of 80 meters for five minutes Sunday over this capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China.

The pilot's brother-in-law and a member of the Korean Aviators Association were on board the 148-kg, double-seat plane.

Liu Yibing, a veteran aviation enthusiast, personally made all the parts of his plane except for the engine, which he purchased.

This is the ninth plane he has built since he first became enthralled by aviation in 1989.

The Korean Aviators Association, an organization of amateur flyers in the Republic of Korea, spotted Liu's story on the Internet and contacted him.
