DPRK Slams US for Remaining Hostile to Pyongyang

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday delivered a broadside against the United States, slamming Washington for remaining hostile to Pyongyang in the new century.

In a signed commentary and several pungent articles, the leading official newspaper Rodong Sinmun strongly condemned the US for adopting a hostile policy toward the DPRK, attempting to launch an aggressive war against the country, portraying it as a "terrorist country," stationing troops in South Korea and colluding with Japan militarily.

"The US does not bother to seriously hurt the pride and dignity of the DPRK," Rodong Sinmun said. "As a matter of fact, the DPRK has closely followed the US attitude toward the DPRK after the emergence of the Bush administration, which has taken a provocative approach to the DPRK."

The US is escalating its provocative and reckless anti-DPRK diatribe by "pulling up" the DPRK over the non-existent "threat" and "human rights issue," and slandering the DPRK as a "terrorism-sponsor," it said, adding that these are a clear indication that the US does not intend to improve bilateral ties but seek to step up its hostile policy of isolating and stifling the DPRK.

On the recent establishment of the US headquarters of the mine-sweeping detachment in its military base in Sasebo, Japan, Rodong Sinmun said the US has been massing its forces in areas around the Korean peninsula since the beginning of the year and this revealed its intention to destroy the DPRK by force.

It is preposterous for the US to push forward the moves to establish the "national missile defense" system (NMD) under the pretext of the "missile threat" from the DPRK, it said, adding that the US can neither be justified nor tolerated in trying to establish the NMD for aggression under the absurd pretext of "threat" from the DPRK.

The DPRK will never allow anyone to violate its pride and dignity and challenge it, it said.

As the US takes a hard-line approach to the DPRK, it is left with no option but to strongly react to the approach, it noted.
