Paper Hails Success of NPC Session

People's Daily, hails the Fourth Session of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC), which ended Thursday, as a session of " democracy, pragmatism, unity and drive-inspiration."

In an editorial scheduled to be published Friday, the paper says that the Outline of the 10th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development adopted at the session is a concentrated expression of the aspirations, will and fundamental interests of the people of all nationalities and a program of action.

It says that "the session is of great significance in realizing the third-step objectives and the rejuvenation of the great Chinese nation."

The editorial calls on the people in all areas of endeavor to break new grounds in modernization by emancipating the mind, seeking truth from facts, and making creations in theory, institution and science and technology.

But, it cautions that there might be unexpected difficulties on the road ahead and there should be no leaving things to chance, indulgence in empty talk and formalism, which "would forfeit the chances for the development of our cause."

The editorial calls for greater efforts to consolidate and strengthen the great unity of the whole Party and the people of all nationalities of the whole country and do everything possible to maintain unity and stability, without which, the editorial says, nothing can be accomplished.

"Unity is rallying power; and unity is strength," the paper stresses.

"Every person willing to contribute to the great cause of socialism and hoping to make the country prosperous and strong must abide by the Constitution and other laws, and consciously safeguard unity and social stability and join the efforts to unveil a new chapter in modernization in the new century," the editorial says.
