PLA Chief of General Staff Meets US VisitorsThe Chinese government and People 's Liberation Army (PLA) will by no means allow Taiwan to be separated from the motherland and will take all necessary measures to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland, said Fu Quanyou, chief of the PLA General Staff, Wednesday.Fu made the remarks in a meeting with Dennis Blair, commander- in-chief of the pacific command of the United States Armed Forces. Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that Sino-US relations are at "a crucial period linking the past to the future," facing both opportunities and challenges. He said that as long as both sides proceed from the interests of the people of the two countries and the world people, abide by the principles of the three Sino-US joint communiques, relations between China and the United States and their armed forces would continue to develop. Fu urged the United States' new government to stop arms sales to Taiwan immediately so as to avoid damaging Sino-US relations. Blair and his party are the first US delegation of senior military officers to visit China in the new century, Fu said. He said he believed the visit would further the exchanges between the two countries armed forces. Blair said the U.S. new government supports military exchanges between the two countries. |
