Wei Jianxing, president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), met Tuesday with a delegation of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions led by its president Lee Namsoon.

Wei, also a standing committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and a member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat, said that China and Republic of Korea (ROK) are two close neighbors. Chinese trade unions attached great importance to its friendly relations with ROK trade unions for the development of mutual ties that are in the interests of workers and peoples of the two countries, Wei said.

Thanks to the concerted efforts of the two sides, Wei said, the friendship and cooperation between trade unions of the two countries achieved satisfactory results.

China and ROK, though with different social systems, national conditions and economic development level, could make further progress in cooperation, he noted.

Wei also briefed the guests on China's political and economic situation, as well as the work of the trade unions.

Lee said China had undergone thorough changes since he paid his first China visit in 1992. As neighboring countries, he said, ROK and China should further the exchanges and cooperation. The federation is ready to enhance friendly exchanges with ACFTU, he said.
