Kite Festival Opens in East China City

A festival featuring kite art opened Tuesday in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province.

With a history of 2,300 years, Chinese kite art has been developed into a large-sized event in terms of kite's shape, color and flying functions.

The 45-day festival is jointly sponsored by two cities of Hangzhou and Weifang which is a major city famous for north-China-style kites in Shandong Province.

More than 40,000 spectators from home and abroad attended the opening ceremony held Monday evening.

During the festival there will be a kite-flying competition, kite-flying performances and a kite art exhibition.
