USA Today: China Deserves Olympic Games
China with a huge population of great people, deserves to host the Olympic Games, local newspaper the USA Today said in its readers column on Tuesday.
Marianne Avery, from Dubuque of Iowa, said in her letter that " I sincerely hope China is allowed to host the (2008) Olympics, and I thank God that I had the privilege and honor to walk among these wonderful people."
"Two years ago, I spent 21 days in China. I expected to be greeted by military police everywhere and by people who did not respect the lives of children," said Avery, "In reality, my experience was quite the opposite."
"What we saw was a country with a huge population, hard at work to do their very best," Avery said, "We have a great opportunity to expand the people of China's knowledge of us and to maybe make their lives a bit better, which may in turn benefit all their people in the human rights area."
