Chinese Vice-premier Congratulates on WTHC
China's Vice-premier Li Lanqing has written a letter of congratulation to the organizers of the inaugural World Taijiquan and Health Conference (WTHC), which opened Wednesday evening in Sanya of southern Chinese island province of Hainan.
Originated in ancient China, Taijiquan has grown up to become part of the excellent Chinese cultural heritage for people to practice for fitness, health and moral cultivation, Li wrote in his letter.
As a traditional sport, Taijiquan not only is highly valued for its role to promote health, but also demonstrates the harmonious oriental philosophical thinking, ever-lasting vigor and glamor of unique traditional Chinese culture. Taijiquan has being accepted by more and more people in the world and helps peoples of other countries and regions to understand more of China.
Themed in "science, health, peace and friendship", the Chinese vice-premier wrote, the WTHC offers to the participants good opportunities for exchanges and learning from each other. In the new century, China will go ahead with and further the on-going reforms in the country, open itself even wider to the outside for more exchanges with others.
Taijiquan is expected to act as a bridge between Chinese and other peoples and play an even more active role in promoting the health of the mankind, the world peace, progress and development, Li wrote.
The organizers of the WTHC announced last week to have received a message of congratulation from Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee.
Taijiquan, as a traditional Chinese sport, has been popular with numerous fans in many other countries, the IOC chief wrote in the message.
During the Conference, participants would take the occasion for exchanges on what they had learned from Taijiquan and discuss its moral value in promoting health through educating youth.
