Chinese, Canadian Split Titles at Short Track Team Championships

Canadian men's and Chinese women's squads retained their titles at the World Short Track Speedskating Team Championships Sunday at Teisan Rink in Nobeyama of central Japan.

Both the teams won their titles at 2000 world championships in the Netherlands.

China placed second in the men's competition, followed by South Korea and host Japan.

In the women's, South Korea was in second ahead of Canada and Bulgaria.

Participants in the annual competition were the world's eight top teams each in the men's and women's World Cup series.

Teams that were eliminated in Saturday's qualification round included men and women from the United States, the Netherlands and Italy, and women from Japan and men from Britain.
