Sri Lankan President Starts Visit to France

Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga left here on Tuesday for a two-day state visit to France for talks with French leaders, officials said.

Kumaratunga is expected to have a meeting with French President Jacques Chirac on Wednesday. She will also will meet with Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, officials said.

The talks between the two sides will focus on the issue of global terrorism. She will also discuss bilateral ties and trade and investment with French leaders.

This is Kumaratunga's second official visit to France within five years. Her last official trip to France was in 1996.

Kumaratunga returned last Week from her official visits to Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. She also held talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair during a private visit to London.
