NPC Chairman Meets Cambodian Senate President

NPC Chairman Meets Cambodian Senate President
Li Peng of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) met with Cambodian Senate President Chea Sim Tuesday in Beijing.

Li said China and Cambodia have a history of friendly contacts lasting more then 2,000 years and since the founding of New China, their relations, initiated and fostered by King Norodom Sihanouk and Chinese leaders of the elder generation, have withstood various tests and witnessed a steady progress.

Sino-Cambodian friendship, based on the five principles of peaceful co-existence, enjoys a solid foundation and is becoming closer, Li said, referring to the frequent high-level contacts at different bilateral or multi-lateral occasions and the increasing cooperation in all fields.

The two countries have always respected and supported each other and treated each other on an equal basis, Li said, adding China highly appreciates Cambodia's pursuit of the One-China policy and its support to China's reunification cause.

China deeply treasures its deep friendship with Cambodia and is willing to further deepen bilateral cooperation and strive for a consistent and steady growth of relations through joint efforts, Li said.

He pointed out that inter-parliamentary contacts are an important part of the overall bilateral ties and the Chinese NPC, while maintaining sound cooperation with the Cambodian National Assembly, is willing to further expand such friendly coordination.

Chea Sim agreed with Li that the friendship between the two countries should be further consolidated. He thanked the Chinese government and people for their consistent support for Cambodia in realizing peace and national unity, and developing the economy. He expressed the hope that economic cooperation would be reinforced so as to further accelerate bilateral friendship.
