One Killed, 18 Injured in Second Jerusalem Bomb Attack

At least one person was killed and 18 others wounded in a bomb attack against an Israeli bus in the French Hill region in Jerusalem a short while ago Tuesday noon, police sources said.

The bombing incident was the second in less than six hours in Jerusalem. Earlier Tuesday, a powerful car bomb blasted near a shopping mall in southern Jerusalem, wounding at least seven people.

The sources added that the police suspected the second bomb blast was "a suicide bombing terrorist attack by Palestinian extremists." However, it was not immediately clear whether the person killed was the man ignited the explosion or an innocent Israeli.

It was also not known whether the bomb exploded inside or outside the bus, which left from the French Hill, an area occupied by Israeli army since the 1967 Mideast War, for a Jewish settlement in the West Bank.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has reportedly convened an emergency security meeting to discuss ways to deal with the sudden escalation of violence between Israel and the Palestinians.

The two blasts occurred respectively before and after the opening of the two-day Arab Summit in Amman, Jordan, where Arab leaders would discuss the stalled Middle East peace process and the six-month Palestinian-Israeli violent conflict.
