Man Sets Himself Ablaze Outside Australia's Parliament

An unidentified man was in critical condition after setting himself on fire outside Australia's parliament on Monday, police and security officials said.

Witnesses said a large group of schoolchildren had seen the man set himself ablaze.

Parliamentary security staff doused the flames before the man was rushed to hospital. They said it was not yet known who the man was or why he had set himself on fire.

The man suffered burns to at least 50 percent of his body.

"He's in a critical condition," an Australian Federal Police spokesman told the press.
