Plane Safety Scare for Australian Fed Govt Ministers

Four Australian Federal Government Ministers and staff flying from Melbourne to Canberra April 2 for the resumption of Parliament have endured a safety scare after their Air Force jet developed mechanical problems mid-flight.

The crew of the Falcon 500 jet, with 17 people aboard, shut down one of the plane's three engines after it was found to be running high oil pressure.

Fire crews and ground staff at Canberra Airport were alerted, but the plane landed safely.

Passengers aboard the flight have reported seeing smoke, but the Australian Defence Force denies there was any fire in the engine.

A Defence spokesman says the jet was shut down as a precautionary measure and the minor fault has already been repaired.
