Senior PLA Officer Meets Indian Guests

Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), here Tuesday said that China and India should enhance understanding and mutual trust.

Fu, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission, made the remark in his meeting with HRS Kalkat, commander-in- chief of the eastern command of the Indian army, and his entourage.

He said that the two countries should resolve their existing problems in line with mutual understanding, mutual concession and mutual adjustment.

He also expounded the stance adopted by the Chinese government on the Taiwan issue, and briefed the guests on China's foreign policy, defence policy, domestic situation and army building.

Kalkat said that the Indian government is committed to seeking security, peace and stability in the border areas between the two countries. He said that he hoped his visit could further mutual understanding and friendship. He reiterated that India adheres to the One-China Policy.

PLA Deputy Chief of the General Staff Xiong Guangkai also met with Kalkat today.
