Chinese, Gabon Defense Ministers Hold Talks

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian said that the Chinese government and armed forces attach importance to the development of Sino-Gabon relations, and are ready to further bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, made the remarks here Tuesday, when he held talks with visiting Gabon Defense Minister Ali Bongo.

Chi said that both China and Gabon are developing countries, and they have endured sufferings in history, and now face the task of developing their economies. He added that the two countries have conducted effective cooperation in the political, economic, military and cultural sectors.

The development of military-to-military relations, which constituted an important part of the Sino-Gabon ties, are satisfactory, Chi said. Military delegations of the two countries have exchanged visits, and the two sides have conducted cooperation in personnel training, he noted.

Chi remarked that the current international situation is tending to ease, and peace and development are the two main themes of the world, although hegemonism and power politics have emerged in the fields of international politics, economy and security.

China and Gabon enjoy consensus on many international issues, and have supported and sympathized with each other in dealing with international affairs, Chi said.

He also expressed gratitude for the adherence of the Gabon government to the One-China stance, and its support on the issue of human rights.

Bongo said that Gabon values its relations with the Chinese government and armed forces, and he believes that his visit will further the cooperation between the two countries.

He reaffirmed his country's One-China stance, and thanked China for its aid to Gabon.
