Chinese President Meets With President of Argentine Supreme Court

Visiting Chinese President Jiang Zemin said here Monday that China will continue to strengthen and improve socialist democracy and legality in a bid to guarantee the country's long-term stability and economic construction smoothly.

He also said during his meeting with Julio Salvador Nazareno, president of the Argentine Supreme Court, that China has attached importance to the development of socialist democracy and enhanced the construction of law, which have made major progress.

President Jiang is here on a state visit to Argentina, the second-leg of his six-nation Latin American tour, which will also take him to Uruguay, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela after his visit to Chile.

Julio Salvador Nazareno, president of the Argentine Supreme Court, briefed Jiang on an account of the Supreme Court and expressed his hope to increase the exchanges and mutual visits between the judicial departments of the two nations.

Jiang said that China attaches much more importance to the development of its relations with Argentina. Since the set-up of diplomatic ties between the two nations, Jiang noted, there have been expansion of bilateral mutual exchanges and cooperation in the political, economic, trade, scientific, technological and cultural fields.

The two countries have also witnessed a boost of exchanges and cooperation in the judicial area, he said, adding that the signing of the agreement on judicial assistance on civil and commercial affairs by the two governments this morning signifies the new beginning of deep cooperation between the judicial departments of the two countries.
