Sino-Japanese Funded Cherry Blossom Park in Central China City

The newly-built cherry blossom park on East Lake in Wuhan, the most important industrial city along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, has been teeming with visitors since it opened late last month.

The 10-hectare, 30 million yuan (about US$3.6 million) park was built over a three-year period with financing from the Administration for East Lake Scenic Zone and Rikuoku Bank of Japan.

It is considered to be third-largest cherry blossom park in the world, after Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Park in Japan and the cherry blossom park in Washington, D.C. of the United States.

More than 5,000 cherry trees in a dozen varieties are grown in the park, which is designed with Japanese-style architecture and other man-made scenic features.

Cherry trees usually bloom from late March to early April, marking the start of spring.
