Senior Military Officer Meets Libyan Guest

Guo Boxiong, executive deputy chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, met Friday with Hamdi Shibani A. Swaihli, chief of staff of Libyan Navy.

Guo, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that both China and Libya developing countries and share identical or similar views in many international and regional issues.

He said that Sino-Libyan relations have developed smoothly, and with the joint efforts, he believes that the military relations between the two countries would develop further.

Guo expressed gratitude for Libyan government's adherence to One-China principle and its support in human rights issue. He also reaffirmed China's stance on Lockerbie issue.

Swaihli said that Libya and China have cooperated well in the political, economic and cultural fields, and the two countries also shared similar view on opposing hegemonism and safeguarding world peace and stability.

He voiced hope that the state and military relations between Libya and China have been promoted. He reaffirmed that Libya will support China's reunification cause and adhere to the One-China stance.
