China Hosts Eighth College Students' Film Festival

The Eighth College Students' Film Festival, with the theme of "Youth, Art and Culture," opened Sunday in Beijing.

During the two-week festival, more than 30 Chinese films, including this year's Best Oscar Foreign Film "Grouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," the Treatment, the Purple Sun and the Warm Summer, will be shown at universities nationwide and compete for various awards such as the best film, best director, best actor and actress.

The film festival is jointly sponsored by the Beijing Normal University, a video program center under the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, China Film Foundation, Beijing Students' Union and two film companies.

All the awards will be nominated by a committee composed of college students and young critics. The final results will be announced on May 10.

Huang Huilin, an official with the organizing committee, said a series of seminars on China's film industry and various films will be held during the festival.
