Senior CPC Official Meets Lao PRP Delegation

Senior CPC Official Meets Lao PRP Delegation
Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Wednesday with Osakan Thammathewa, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (PRP), and his party.

extended warm welcome to the delegation and lauded Osakan, who is also head of the Central Propaganda Training Department of the PRP, as an "old friend" of the Chinese people.

Wei, who is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, said China and Laos, two close neighbors with a traditional friendship, have conducted fruitful cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields.

He added that President Jiang Zemin and President Khamtay Siphandone's historical exchange of visits last year has defined the orientation of bilateral relations in the new century.

Furthering the good-neighborliness between China and Laos is not only in the basic interests of the two peoples but also conducive to regional peace, stability and development, Wei stressed.

China and Laos are both developing countries, and the CPC and PRP are faced with many common tasks and challenges in governing their respective countries and promoting their own reforms, Wei said, adding that the CPC is willing to work together with the PRP to jointly lift bilateral ties to a new level.

He expressed the conviction that under the leadership of the PRP, the Lao people will make even greater achievements.

Osakan said both the PRP and the Lao government highly value the contribution of the CPC and the Chinese government to bilateral ties.

The PRP will, as always, engage in friendly contacts with the CPC, he said, expressing the hope that both sides will learn from each other and further implement the consensus reached between leaders of both parties in developing relations so as to promote an overall cooperation in all fields.
