DPRK Condemns S.Korea-US Military Exercise

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Monday condemned the week-long South Korea-US joint military exercise, which started last Friday, for halting the process of reconciliation, cooperation and peace on the Korean peninsula.

The Official Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in a commentary that the war game is against the spirit of the framework agreed upon by the DPRK and the US, which calls for refraining from threatening the other party by force.

The commentary called the exercise a "very provocative and dangerous war exercise," for it's going on under the simulated conditions of an armed invasion of the DPRK.

The exercise also proves that the U.S. is seeking to bring the DPRK-US and the North-South relations back to the era of confrontation before in a bid to "justify its occupation of South Korea and the continued division of Koreas and stifle the DPRK by force of arms," the commentary said.

The DPRK has to take a serious view of the attitude on the part of the South Korean military authorities as they are joining the US in the war exercise to harm the Korean nation. Their action violates the spirit of the North-South joint declaration which calls for reunifying the country independently by its own efforts, it said.

The commentary stressed that no reconciliation, cooperation and peaceful reunification can be expected on the Korean peninsula as long as the US continues pursuing their hostile policy towards the DPRK and escalating their moves to provoke a new war.
