Japanese Octogenarian Apologized for Past War Crimes in China

Octogenarian and former Japanese soldier Shioya Tamoyoshi, 83, took a special trip to Chengdu and offered an apology to the Chinese people for past war crimes committed by Japanese aggressor troops in China. Back in the Second World War years, young Shioya Tamoyoshi had been a soldier with No.59 division of the Japanese Imperial Army stationed in Taian Sation of Shangdong Province between 1942 and 1945. Shioya Tamoyoshi is swabbing the Monument of Sichuan Martyrs during the War of Resistance against Japan in Chengdu.

Int'l Donations to Help Needy Chinese Students

The 13th Contribution Activity organized by Shanghai Charity Foundation was recently held in Shanghai Hilton Hotel. Among the benefactors are 127 international friends and organizations from 16 countries and regions including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Malaysia with a donation of 530,000 yuan made to 223 high school and primary school students noted for their good conduct and academic study but under poor family circumstances. Chinese Scientists Succeeded in Long-distance Fish Hybridization

Scientists in Heilongjiang Aquatic Products Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences have lately succeeded in long-distance hybridization of fish by changing the breeding environment of parent fish, intensifying illumination and changing of plant layout in the ponds. Picture shows successful breeding of hybrid catfish thanks to long-distance hybridization technology used. It has ¡°Huaitou Catfish¡±, the particular catfish in Heilongjiang River valley, as its female parent and common catfish as its male parent. On the right is a common catfish for comparison.

Bush Makes Decisions on U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan
