China Appoints Officials of Liaison Office in Macao SAR

China's State Council has appointed Li Yongwu and Liu Mingqi as deputy directors of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Li, born in July 1944, graduated from the prestigious Qinghua University and acted as director of the State Administration of Petroleum and Chemical Industries prior to this new post.

Liu, born in November 1944, was once deputy governor of south China's island province of Hainan and then deputy director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs office of State Council.

The officials expressed their full confidence in their future work in Macao Thursday in a meeting with the press.

They vowed to adhere to the principle of "One Country, Two Systems", "Macao People Governing Macao" and high-degree autonomy and give full support to the work of the SAR government headed by chief executive Ho Hau Wah.
