China's CPPCC Chairman Arrives in Istanbul

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), arrived in Istanbul Saturday night on a four-day official goodwill visit to Turkey.

In a written speech issued at the airport, Li said his visit, which coincides with the beginning of a new century and the 30th anniversary of establishment of China-Turkey diplomatic ties, aims at promoting bilateral friendly relations to a higher level.

He said he expects to hold "constructive and fruitful discussions" with Turkish leaders, to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between peoples of the two countries.

Turkey is the last leg of Li's four-nation tour, which has taken him to Mauritius, South Africa and Morocco.
