An Actual Record--"Xiamen Yuanhua Smuggling Case" Published
"Xiamen Yuanhua Smuggling Case", a literary works, an actual record of the investigation on China's biggest smuggling case in its full length was formally published by China Customs Publishing House lately, which would be brought to the readers in the nigh future.
With over 300,000 words, the book recorded the complete investigation course of the "4.20" special task force consisting of officials from the central authorities in August 1999 for probing into the case of Lai Changxing smuggling group. The investigation found out what the group and others had smuggled was mainly refined oil, vegetable oil, cars and cigarettes with a worth of 53 billion yuan (approximately US$6.4 billion) and a customs-duty evasion up to 27 billion yuan since 1996. This is the first time to lay bare the inside story of how the smuggling group tried by means and ways to bribe a batch of party members and government officials.
By participating in the relevant investigation and interviewing many people involved in this case, the author gathered a lot of accurate materials, giving in the book a true account of what has actually happened and also cleared up certain rumors and hearsay.
Xiamen Yuanhua Smuggling Case is the biggest smuggling and corruption case in China ever since 1949. The smuggling group has for years been very rampant, engaged in goods smuggling as mentioned above. By hooks and by crooks they avoided customs declaration and made false reports on the nature of the deals or the names of the goods.
By resorting to money and beauty the group seduced a number of government officials down to the cesspool in order to get a loophole for their nasty activities. It has thus caused serious damage to the normal economic order, brought huge financial losses to the state, induced rampant corruption and impaired the social, political and economic life in China.
