Putin, Bush Hold Phone Conversation on Arms Reduction

US President George W. Bush on Tuesday assured his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that the United State does not intend to go down the path of adopting one-sided strategic stability decisions.

Bush made the assurance during a telephone conversation with Putin, said the Russian presidential press service.

Expressing appreciation for Bush's information, Putin reiterated Russia's readiness to make concerted efforts with the US side to promote nuclear arms reduction and eliminate potential threats by keeping the structure of disarmament accords, which was created more than 30 years ago.

Paying special attention to cooperation in solving regional problems, the two leaders discussed possible steps toward settling the Middle East issue, said the press service.

They also talked about preparations for a Russian-US summit scheduled for this summer, but no specific date for the summit was fixed.
