Sunbird Park Opened in Yunnan

China's first sunbird park lately opened in Kunming, Yunnan Province. Over an area of 600 square meters, the Sunbird Park has more than 300 sunbirds and over 20 kinds of songbirds from Wenshan Mountain, Honghe Prefecture and Xishuangbanna. Now the park provides a research base for birdmen of the small birds and a new scenic spot to Kunming. As picture shows, the female sunbird (left) has gray feathers; the male sunbird has flaming feathers that are splendid and gorgeous just like the sun.

Dianchi Lake Needs a Clean Environ

In recent years, 4 billion yuan of investment have been allocated by the Central Government and Yunnan province in harnessing Dianchi Lake (a freshwater lake lies in the south of Kunming, Yunnan Province). However, irrespective of the rules and laws concerned, some units, villages and individuals still poured trash and sewage into the lake. On this account, environmentalists appeal to the Kunming municipal government for a "Three Responsibility Contract System" to protect the Dianchi Lake from being further polluted. National Flag Flutters Over Potala Palace Square

In 1995, A big sum of 110 million yuan was allocated by the Central Government for building the Potala Palace Square on the basis of former Lhasa Culture Palace Square.
