China Commends Most Outstanding Mothers
Ten Chinese women, who have made remarkable contributions to their families and society, were cited as "China's Most Outstanding Mothers," on the eve of Mother's Day.

The distinguished mothers include Jin Chaorong, a mother with the Tianjin-based SOS Children's Village who has brought up 15 children, and Cering Zhoigar, a Tibetan teacher that has taught for more than 20 years in a local primary school.

The award ceremony for the mothers was held Saturday at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing.

Gu Xiulian, vice chairwoman of the All-China Women's Federation, praised the outstanding mothers at the ceremony.

The 10 virtuous and generous mothers have firmly advocated the correctness of science and learned advanced knowledge, and have made many sacrifices for family and society, displaying a strong sense of responsibility, Gu said, calling on all Chinese women to follow their example and make new contributions to the Chinese nation.

This activity was co-sponsored by 15 units including the All- China Women's Federation, People's Daily and China Central Television (CCTV).

Before the ceremony, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Li Peng, and Vice Chairwomen Peng Peiyun and He Luli, met with the 10 mothers.

Peng Peiyun, He Luli and other senior officials presented awards to the 10 mothers, before three of them gave speeches about their personal experiences during the event.
