China's Home Appliance Giant Starts Industrial Park in PakistanChina's home appliance giant Haier has started the construction of a manufacturing base in Lahore, a city in Pakistan's Punjab Province.The Pakistan Haier Industrial Zone is the second overseas manufacturing base set up by the company, which is headquartered in this coastal city in east China's Shandong Province. The first one is in the United States. The industrial zone will occupy an area of 150,000 square meters, and will become the largest and most advanced home appliance production base in Pakistan upon operation, said Zhang Ruimin, chief executive officer of Haier. The first phase of the zone will have an annual capacity one million refrigerators, washing machines and air-conditioners. The demand for home appliances has been on the rise recently in Pakistan, a nation with a population of 170 million. The country depends heavily on imports for home appliances at the moment. Haier products have been warmly welcomed by Pakistan's consumers for their reliable quality and locally-adapted design, said company sources, adding that Haier's sales to Pakistan have been increasing at 80 percent a year. |
